James Samuel Hancock

James Samuel Hancock, age 79, of 2765 Love Joy Rd, Troy died Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Stanly Regional Medical Center, Albemarle.Mr. Hancock was born May 12, 1929 in Montgomery County, NC, the son of Sam and Lizzie (Lemons) Hancock. He was a member of Long Hill Baptist Church and a former employee of Smitherman Cotton Mill. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Liverett Hancock, brothers: Paul, Jessie, Dewey, Wes and Albert Hancock and one sister Becky Hancock.He is survived by four daughters: Donna Thompson and Mary Duncan, both of Troy, Brenda Grant of Laurinburg and Sharon Blalock of Albemarle; four sons: James R. Hancock, John Hancock, Sam Hancock, all of Troy and Jerry S. Hancock of Las Vegas, NEV; three sisters: Elizabeth Cranford and Eula Parker, both of Biscoe, Fannie Blackmon of Mt. Pleasant; one brother: Elsie Hancock of Capelsie; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 PM at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at the home. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 pm at Long Hill Baptist Church, 637 Capelsie Road, Candor with Rev. Clyde Allen officiating. Burial will be in Capelsie Cemetery, Capelsie Rd., Candor.
