James Lee Councilman, age 84, of 569 N. Elm St., Asheboro died Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Randolph Hospice House. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Dr. Mark J. Key officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Mr. Councilman was born in Asheboro on April 14, 1927 to Jesse H. Councilman, Sr. and Ethel Presnell Councilman. He was a 1944 graduate of Asheboro High School and attended Wake Forest University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was the former owner of Asheboro Furniture and was later employed with Colfax Furniture. He was a volunteer fireman for the City of Asheboro for 26 years. James was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jesse H. Councilman, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Allred Councilman; daughter, Susie C. Dunn of Charlotte, NC; granddaughters, Mandy and Roxanne Dunn both of Charlotte, NC; nephews, Jay Councilman and Garry McBride both of Asheboro, NC; nieces, Cynthia M. Pierce of Asheboro, NC and Nancy Byrd of Wallburg, NC; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Thurman and Helena McBride of Asheboro, NC. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00-11:00 AM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
