James Tiffany Brown

d. January 13, 2013

In Loving Memory The Beloved Life of Reverend James T. Brown (December 4, 1944 - January 13, 2013) Reverend James Tiffany Brown affectionately known as "Phill" was born on December 4, 1944 in Asheboro, North Carolina to Louise & James "Noody" Brown. Phill was raised in Asheboro and attended Central High School. He studied business administration at Asheboro Business College. A proud U.S. Army veteran, Phill served his country in Vietnam from 1965 - 1967. In 1974, Phill gave his life to Christ, married the love of his life, Audrey C. Brown, and joined the Church of God of Prophecy at Cross Street in Asheboro, North Carolina; shortly thereafter he became a licensed minister. Phill completed his ministerial training at The Bible Training Institute, Cleveland, Tennessee. Rev. Brown pastored for 18 years: five years in Newburgh, New York (1978-1983); three years in New York, New York (1983-1986); and eight years in Sanford, North Carolina (1986-1994), where he had many ministerial accomplishments and experienced significant church expansion. The heart of his ministry was centered on building people spiritually and helping the community. His ministerial accomplishments are numerous, but of particular pride were the successful oversight of a day care ministry, and developing and organizing a family and community-centered food and prison ministry in Sanford, North Carolina. Phill truly loved life and loved people. To know him was to love him. He had a great sense of humor and tremendous compassion for everyone. He loved all sports, and really enjoyed playing golf. As a musician, Phill was a singer, pianist, drummer, guitar and trombone player. He played in numerous bands and toured with the "Revivaliers." He also loved to travel, and was a fervent advocate of education. Rev. Brown was a true "family man." Immediate and extended family were a source of pride and joy for him. He leaves to cherish: the love of his life and wife of 38 years, Audrey Marie Crump Brown. He also leaves a tremendous legacy through his beloved children: Pastor Tiffany L. Brower (Tramaja Brower) of Randleman, North Carolina; Angela, Debra and Tina Crump of Asheboro, North Carolina;; Dr. Andraé L. Brown (Dr. Rhea L. Combs-Brown) of Portland, Oregon; Michael T. Brown (Gilette Brown) of Woodbridge, Virginia; and Sabrina Brown of Memphis, Tennessee and two goddaughters, Centerra "Oakie" Harris of Asheboro, North Carolina and Stephanie Crank of Charlotte, North Carolina; a sister, Syble Lindsey (Les Lindsey, deceased) of Asheboro, North Carolina; and two brothers, Tommy Brown of Ben Salem, Pennsylvania; and Willie T. "Dinky" Brown who preceded Phill in death. Rev. Brown was affectionately known as "Paw-Paw" to 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grand children. He also leaves a lasting impact and great impression on a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. James T. Brown was a great friend and confidante to many, and a beloved member of the Asheboro community. In his famous words: "Remember the Lord loves you, and so does Brother Brown. " The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 12:00-1:30 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, NC.
