James "Jim" Millard Baker, Jr., age 75, of 321 Huntmaster Trail, Asheboro died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Baker was born May 21, 1936 in Hoke County, NC, the son of James Millard and Kate Spoon Baker. After graduating from Hoke County High School, he went on to serve in the United States Air Force for 10 ½ years. After returning from serving his country, he worked for Union Carbide, Eveready, and Energizer as mechanic for over 34 years. Jim also loved to spend his free time bowling. He was a wonderful husband, Dad, Papaw and friend. He is survived by his wife of 32 years: Ruby Hopkins Baker; sons: Tony and wife Gloria Small of Trinity, Rick and wife Robin Small of Asheboro, and Curtis Small of Trinity; daughter: Kaye and husband Lee Herron of Trinity; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and 1 more on the way; and sister: Katherine Bulla of Asheboro. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at his home. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 17, 2011 at 11:00 at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with Rev. David Hopkins and Pastor Jim Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro, with military honors from Randolph County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204-0009.
