Jackie Garrett Russell, age 68, of 627 Bruton Street, Troy died Monday, September 21, 2015 at Stanly Regional Medical Center, Albemarle.
Jackie was born November 5, 1946 at Troy, NC the son of George and Bertha Callicutt Russell.
He was a 1965 graduate of West Montgomery High School. He served in the 11th Armored Calvary Division of the US Army, a veteran of Vietnam and Cambodia. Jackie owned and operated the Econo Station of Troy for 43 years. He was a great grandfather to his loving grandchildren.
In addition his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Lanny Russell.
He is survived by his wife: Iris Helms Russell of Candor; stepson Jeff Byrum and wife Chelsey of Troy; two grandchildren: Payton and Parker Byrum.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 22, 2015 from 6 – 8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at the home of Jeff and Chelsey Byrum of 671 Biscoe Rd., Troy. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home with Rev. Bucky Davis officiating.
Burial with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.
