Adam Wayne (Jack) Beck, age 83, of 1308 Old Cox Rd., Apt. 22, Asheboro died Friday, March 28, 2008 at his home. Mr. Beck was born July 6, 1924 at Churchland, Davidson County NC the son of the late Jesse B. and the late Jennie Young Beck. He is survived by his wife: Audrey C. Beck; two sons: Dr. Mark C. Beck of High Point, NC, Dr. Eric W. Beck of Winston-Salem, NC one daughter: Emily Anne Beck of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren :Hunter Beck, Ivey Lee Trump, Holden Beck, Harrison Beck, Hamilton Beck, Henderson Beck, Audrey Ann Beck, Anna Lee Beck, Sarah Beck and Julian Beck; brother: Charles Sheffield Beck of Mebane, NC; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. & Mrs. Beck were married August 28, 1946. Mr. Beck is a graduate of Wake Forest University Class of 1950 and an honor graduate of Wake Forest University Scholl of Law Class of 1952. Following his graduation, Mr. Beck and his wife moved to Asheboro where Mr. Beck entered practice of law with the late G.E. Miller. He later practiced under the firm name of Beck, OBriant, OBriant & Glass (and later Bunch). When he first came to Asheboro, Mr. Beck was an active member of the First Baptist Church where he taught a High School Boys Sunday School Class, was a member of the Board of Deacons and other positions in the church. Later Mr. Beck and his wife became members of the Central United Methodist Church where he served as a member of its Official Board and where he was active until his death. Mr. Beck, soon after moving to Asheboro, became active in the civic affairs of his town. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce for many years and served as its president. He received the Distinguished Service Award from this club in 1957. He was a member and served as president of the Kiwanis Club of Asheboro. As an adult, Mr. Beck was active in the Boy Scouts. He served as Randolph District Chairman of the Boy Scouts and was a member of the General Greene Council, Boy Scouts of America. He received the Silver Beaver Award for his contribution to Boy Scouting. Mr. Beck was active and served and served as chairman in many fund raising events. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Asheboro-Randolph Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Beck retired from the practice of law on January 1, 1990. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 30, 2008 from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave. Asheboro, NC. The memorial service will be Monday, March 31, 2008 at 4:00 PM. at Central United Methodist Church, 300 South Main Street, Asheboro, NC with Dr. Mark J. Key and Rev. Barry Queen officiating.
