Junior Clayton "J.C." Smith, age 81, of 565 Morton Avenue, Asheboro died Monday, May 13, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Oakhurst Baptist Church, 2225 South Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Smith was born in High Point on November 27, 1931 to John Andrew and Lydia Morgan Smith, who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Asheboro High School, Randolph Community College, and High Point College. J.C. served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was retired from B.B. Walker Company. J.C. was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church, where he was a past chairman of the deacons and treasurer. He was a former member of the Asheboro Optimist Club and formerly served as District Lieutenant Governor, and a former member of the Asheboro Toastmasters Club. J.C. received the Congressional Certificate of Appreciation from the National Republican Congressional Committee.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Nance Smith; daughter, Teresa Smith Mitchem and her husband Larry of Asheboro; son, Barry Clayton Smith and his wife Cathy of Asheboro; grandchildren, Crystal Walker, Amy Sweatt, Charles Sweatt; great grandchildren, Jayden Walker, Silas Walker, Kelsey Sweatt, Bryson Sweatt, and Cassidy Trotter.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 6-8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
