John Calvin "J.C." Lewis, age 82, of Asheboro died Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Fayetteville Street Baptist Church, 901 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Dr. Bruce Dickerson and Rev. Jack Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Lewis was born in Troy, NC on May 29, 1931 to Atlas and Nettie Hogan Lewis. J.C. had 12 years of military service, serving in the U.S. Army, NC National Guard, and the Army Reserves. He was retired as a mechanic from Gate City Chrysler. J.C. had been a member of Fayetteville Street Baptist Church since 1956, where he taught Sunday School, was a deacon, and served on the Fayetteville Street Christian School board. In addition to his parents, J.C. was preceded in death by his sisters Geraldine Stringer and Hazel Hulin and brother Atlas Floyd Lewis.
J.C. was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Sibyl Strider Lewis; sons, John C. Lewis, Jr. and his wife Pam of Ramseur, David S. Lewis and his wife Lyn of Asheville; and grandchildren, Mandy, Deanna, and Travis Lewis.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro.
