Iris M. Helms Russell

Iris Marlene Helms Russell, age 77, of 326 Bowman Rd., Candor, NC, formerly of Troy, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living, Candor, NC. Iris was born October 14, 1939 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of William Melvin and Dolly Hudson Helms. She was a nurse’s aide in the medical field for twenty years. Iris was of the Baptist faith. She was a dedicated wife of forty-seven years, a gracious, kind and loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling to the mountains or beach and collecting knicknacks. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jackie Garrett Russell. She is survived by one son: Jeff Byrum and wife Chelsey of Troy; 2 granddaughters: Payton and Parker Byrum; and two brothers: Gary Helms of Kannapolis and Carlton Helms of Concord. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N Main St., Troy; other times at the home of Jeff and Chelsey Byrum. Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Southside Cemetery, S. Main St., Troy with the Rev. Bucky Davis officiating.
