Iris Herring Bufflap, age 85, formerly of 130 S. Elm Street, Asheboro died Monday, April 14, 2008 at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro. Mrs. Bufflap was born April 9, 1923 the daughter of Alfred Benjamin and Kathleen (Rogers) Herring.
Mrs. Bufflap was a native of Rose Hill, NC and a resident of Asheboro since 1960. She was a Navy veteran of WWII, sang in the Navy Hour and played the drums in the Navy Band. Mrs. Bufflap taught school for 37 years, many of those years at Donna Lee Loflin Elementary. She taught in Wallace, Forest City and Asheboro City Schools. She did graduate work at Columbia University, Peabody. Mrs. Bufflap loved her children and tried hard not to have favorites. A member of First Baptist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and loved to sing in the singing Christmas tree. Mrs. Bufflap was a member and past president of Asheboro Womens Club, Bel canto Music Club in Forest City, participated in the Kiwanis pancake supper and the Community Concerts. Some of her favorite times were the beach trips with her friends, tending to her yard and flowers, her bird collection and Home and Garden shows. She loved God, her church and her friends.
She is survived by one daughter: Ann Bufflap Keller of Charlotte, NC; Grandson, Ben Keller of Charlotte, NC; one sister: Lyda H Patterson of Hickory, NC and one brother: Dr. William B Herring of Brown Summit, NC; and 3 Nieces.
The family will receive friends Thursday April 17, 2008, from 10-11 AM at First Baptist Church, 133 North Church Street, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be Thursday, April 17, 2008, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Asheboro with officiating Rev Mark Hall and Rev Koy Lee Haywood officiating.
