Irene Thompson Wood

Irene Thompson Wood, age 82, of 1595 Pekin Road, Troy died Friday, February 4, 2011 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst. Mrs. Wood was born January 4, 1929 in Montgomery County, NC, the daughter of the late Marvin and the late Nancy Carline Sanders Thompson. She was a retired CNA with 28 years of service from Autumn Care of Biscoe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmitt Wood. She is survived by her children: Carl Wood of Ellerbe, Rosa Faircloth of Oakboro, Marshall Wood of Albemarle, Jane Hathcock of Norwood, Johnny Wood of Norwood, Bobby Wood of Albemarle, Wayne Wood of Troy, Jeff Wood of Candor; stepdaughter: Bertha Freeman of Troy; 25 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; one sister: Louise Morris of Troy. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at the home. The funeral will be Monday at 3:00 pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Pleasant Grove Church Road, Mt. Gilead with Rev. Wayne VunCannon officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.
