Irene Welborn Burns

ASHEBORO - Irene Welborn Burns, age 82, of Asheboro passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at her home, her family by her side. Born February 4, 1932 in Durham, NC, Irene was the third daughter of L. J. Rainey and wife Irene Hurst. While Irene enjoyed many hobbies and passions throughout her life, golf, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren were by far her favorite pastimes. Irene was preceded in death by her first husband Otto Welborn of Trinity, who passed in 1978. Irene's warm and loving presence will be missed greatly by all of her family, and the friends she leaves behind. She is survived by her husband of 32 years: Joe Burns; daughter: Sandra Welborn and John Bolton of San Luis Ohbispo, CA; sons: Jody Welborn and wife Ellie of Trinity; David Welborn and wife Linda of Pinnacle; grandchildren: Brandon Welborn, Chris Welborn, Matthew Welborn, Adam Welborn, Gray Taylor, Drew Taylor; great grandchild, Harper Welborn; brother, Jim Rainey of Franklin, VA; and sister, Nancy Sizemore of Asheboro. The family will receive friends at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, NC on Tuesday, January 6 from 6 to 8pm. The family will hold a private burial service at a later date.
