Inez Page Johnson

Inez Page Johnson, 89, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Carillon Assisted Living of Asheboro. Inez was born in Clinton, N.C., daughter of Nellie Heath Page and Marshall Arthur Page. She lived her childhood and young adult years in Wilson, N.C. and was a telephone operator. While sharing a cab ride home from work one evening, she met the love of her life and husband of 61 years, Lt. Col. (USAF) Robert E. Johnson, Jr., and began her second career as a military wife and extraordinary mother. Inez made a home for her family in several states (CA, AL, TX, CO, AR, NY and NC) and countries abroad (Philippines and Japan). With Southern grace and charm, she brought a little of North Carolina with her wherever she traveled, introducing barbeque, grits and cornbread to many. Inez and her husband, Bob, returned to Asheboro, N.C. upon his retirement from the Air Force in 1975 where they enjoyed renovating the Johnson family homeplace, gardening, and attending First United Methodist Church. She had a passion for reading, loved to dance, and was an avid bird watcher. Inez is survived by her three daughters, Page Faulk and husband Albert of Charlotte, Susan Johnson and husband Gary Prichard of Charlotte, and Victoria (Vicky) Madden and husband Sherman of Durham; grandchildren Jennifer Faulk Beltran, Jaime Faulk Vizitiu, Geremy and Tracy Prichard, Sean and Zachary Madden; great grandchildren Grace and Ben Beltran, and Sierra Vizitiu. She is also survived by her brother Warren (Dub) Page and wife Irene of Bath, N.C. and sister-in-law, Joyce Page of Wilson, N.C. The family wishes to thank her former in-home caregivers Lucille Johnson, Elaine Little, and Iris Hinson for their loving care of our mother for so many years. We also thank the staff of the Garden Place at Carillon Assisted Living of Asheboro, her home of the past two years, for their caring and support, and Hospice of Randolph County for their help during her last days. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 1:00 - 1:45 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Funeral services will follow on Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sylvia Wilhelm officiating. Burial will be in Asheboro City Cemetery.
