Cornelia Hunt Hedrick Wood was born to Edward L. and Gladys P. Hedrick on August 1, 1919 in Asheboro and passed away on July 30, 2012 after a lengthy illness in Asheboro. She was a graduate of Asheboro High School and the School of Business at Women's College, now UNC-G. She was a very civic minded individual, having spoken before the NC State House of Representatives and later the State Senate concerning children's safety. Mrs. Wood was a Girl Scout troop leader for many years, started up and ran a furniture factory with her late husband and was very active in the First United Methodist Church. She was an active DAR member, book club member and spent many hours tracing her family history. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her husband, William Penn Wood, sister, Rebecca Hedrick Koonce, nephew, Edward Lawrence Hedrick III and granddaughter Lee Page Viar.
She is survived by her son, William Penn Wood, III and his wife Beth of Atlanta, GA; daughters, Cornelia McAulay Wood Stoudemire and her husband Stewart of Hickory, Julia Page Wood of Asheboro; grandchildren, Stewart Wood Stoudemire and his wife Kelly, Sarah Hunt Stoudemire Mohammed and her husband Faisal, Charles Richard Viar; great grandchildren, Clarie Elizabeth Stoudemire, Margaret Allison Stoudemire, Emma Reece Mohammed, Isaac Stewart Mohammed; brother, Edward Lawrence Hedrick, Jr. and his wife Marian.
A memorial service will be held at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. George Roberson officiating.
