Howard Edward Wood, age 68, of Randleman died Sunday, August 17, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Wood was born May 30, 1946 the son of Rev. Howard Von and Pauline Collins Wood.
Mr. Wood was a native of Surry County and a graduate of Reidsville High School, GTCC and Winston Salem State University. He was a veteran of the US Army serving his country during the Vietnam War and was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church. Howard was a fireman with Greensboro Fire Department before he began teaching Fire Science at GTCC. Howard returned to the fire department as Fire Chief at Guil-Rand Fire Department. He was Volunteer Fire Chief at Level Cross Fire Department and retired Deputy Chief of Randleman Fire Department. In addition to his parents, he is preceded by a sister, Virginia Wood Church.
He is survived by his wife: Judy Bruce Wood, daughter: Mona Wood Chiusano and her husband, Mike of Reidsville, son: Brian Edward Wood of Liberty, grandchildren: Eli Wood, Gloria Wood and Lauren Slusher, sister: Betty Wood Rogers and her husband Brad of Roxboro; brother In Law, Gary Church of Greensboro, and canine companions: Rusty and Molly.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 19, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 2:00 PM at New Salem United Methodist Church, 623 New Salem Rd., Randleman with Rev. Joyce Bunn officiating.
Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, Greensboro with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
