John Howard Redding of Asheboro, NC, age 73, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2009. Howard was born to the late Dr. & Mrs. John O. Redding Jr., September 30, 1936 in New Orleans, LA and subsequently moved to Asheboro. He received his B.A. from Davidson College in 1960, and his J.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1964. Howard proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956-1958. On March 28, 1964, he married Carolyn Borden Edgerton, of Goldsboro, NC. Howard's grandfather, the late Dr. Holly Wilberforce Wells of Asheboro, NC presided over the service.
Howard was an accomplished attorney, artist, and founding board member of the Randolph Bank and Trust Company, serving from 1977-2008. Howard was also active in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and will be especially remembered for his generous charitable contributions to the Randolph Arts Guild, and Ducks Unlimited of Randolph County.
Howard is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Edgerton Redding of Asheboro, NC and three children: Dr. John Fulton Redding II and spouse Dr. Rebecca Steddom Redding of Asheboro, NC; Ms. Katharine Redding Braak of Raleigh, NC; and Mr. Charles Edgerton Redding and spouse Mrs. Anna Carmichael Redding of Midlothian, VA. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Leslie Redding Marquardt and husband Mr. Dennis Merrill Marquardt of Morehead City, NC and their children: Mr. William Lyle Marquardt and spouse Mrs. Charmaine Phillips Marquardt; and Mrs. Holly Marquardt Rice and spouse Mr. Christopher Byron Rice. Grandchildren include: Ms. Margaret Katharine Redding, Ms. Elizabeth Anne Redding, Mr. Charles Howard Redding, and Ms. Campbell Carmichael Redding. Howard is preceded in death by his brother, Mr. William Andrews Redding.
A visitation will be held for friends and family at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by Pugh Funeral Home.
