Howard Eston Nooe, age 84, of Poole Rd, Troy died Monday, April 28, 2014 at his home.
Howard was born January 31, 1930 in Randolph County, NC, the son of Walter Jay and Roberta Callicutt Nooe.
Howard was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Assistant Sunday School Teacher, member of the Brotherhood and member of the Adult Choir. His love for his church family was shown especially at Easter when he would be in charge of the annual Easter Sunrise Breakfast and on Sunday mornings when he would have his pockets filled with candy for his fellow members. Every year on Mother's Day, Howard would give each lady in the church a red rose in memory of his mother.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Howard was a former Superintendent of Public Works for the Town of Troy retiring with 29 years of service. He attended Worth's Business College in Fayetteville.
Howard loved to stay busy. He was an active member of the Montgomery County Rescue Squad for fifty years; he enjoyed dirt track racing, spending time at the beach with his children and grandchildren who were the light of his life, beekeeping, and when spring came each year his time was spent in his garden, especially growing the best tomatoes ever.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Jean Nooe, brothers, Clifford, Bennett and Guy Nooe; sisters, Bruce Nance, Lottie Deaton and Zeola Freeman.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years: Arlene Russell Nooe of the home; one daughter: Debra (Debbie) Russell and husband, Frank of Troy; two sons: Eston R. (Buck) Nooe of Statesville, Wayne A. Nooe and wife, Amy of Williamsburg, VA; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Donnie Nooe of Bartow, Fl, John Nooe of Asheboro and Walter J. Nooe, Jr. of Troy.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 30, 2014 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at the home. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 412 Bell Street, Troy with Rev. Jerry Mabry and Pastor Mark Harper officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.
