Herbert Clarence "Herb" Harton, age 72, of 1641 Browers Chapel Road, Asheboro, died Friday, July 4, 2008, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro. A native of Raleigh, Herb was a graduate of Campbell College and East Carolina College where he met and married his wife of 51 years, Linda York Harton. After teaching at Seagrove High School for two years, Herb served his community as an Allstate Agent in Asheboro for 41 years, where he won the prestigious Medallion of Honor award as well as many additional sales and service leadership awards. He also owned and operated Zooland Family Campground in Pisgah, NC, for over 30 years. He loved to travel around the country in his motorhome, visiting virtually every state, with his favorite U.S. adventure being Alaska. A member of Cross Road Baptist Church, he was a man of faith who loved scripture and enjoyed a trip to the Holy Land. Herb had a great sense of humor and loved to joke with others. He was admired for his strength, perseverance, and drive to always do his best and for the respect and helpfulness with which he treated all people. He is survived by his wife: Linda York Harton; two daughters: Dr. Karen Harton Allen and her husband Gary of Pittsboro, NC; Dr. Helen Harton of Cedar Falls, IA; and one son: Herbert Lynn Harton and his wife Flavia of Greenville, SC; five grandchildren: Grant Allen of Pittsboro, NC; Darren Allen of Asheboro, NC; Craig Allen of Jacksonville, FL; Sara Harton of Charlotte, NC; and Leigh Harton of Birmingham, AL; and one sister: Rita Wiley of Dumfries, VA. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 - 9:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Cross Road Baptist Church, 1566 Old Cox Road, Asheboro with Pastor Johnny R. Henderson and Rev. Don McIntyre officiating.
