Helen Bruton Poe

Helen Bruton Poe, age 90, of Troy died Sunday, December 27, 2015 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst. Mrs. Poe was born March 16, 1925 at Mt Gilead, NC, the daughter of Vinton Carr and Mary Haywood Bruton. She was a graduate of Appalachian Teacher's College, class of 1945. She was a retired educator with the Montgomery County School System. Mrs. Poe was a member of the Troy Mother's Club, the XYZ Club and two bridge clubs. She was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. In her younger years she loved to play tennis and golf and spend time at the beach. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brothers and sister; James L. Bruton, Dr. Charles W. Bruton, V. C. Bruton, Jr. and Elizabeth B. Simpson; a nephew: Dr. Charles W. Bruton, Jr. She is survived by one sister: Annie Ruth Johnson of Atlanta, GA; nephews and nieces: James I. Bruton of Greer, SC, Mary Carr Bode of Tom's River, NJ, Nancy Bruton Maree of Raleigh, NC, Vinton Charles Bruton of Fremont, NC, V.C. Bruton, III of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Jeanne J. Bowden of Atlanta, GA, Benjamin F. Simpson, Jr. of Oak Hill, W VA, Eugene Thomas Bruton of Smithfield, NC, Frances B. Hunsucker of Winston- Salem, NC, Ruth B. Morris of Troy, NC, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 1-2 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, 239 N. Russell St., Troy. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. J. Scott Finicum officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery, Mt. Gilead.
