Harvey Harris Hammond, age 78, of 2751 Old NC Hwy. 49, Asheboro died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the New Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 4104 Jerusalem Rd., Lexington with Pastor Butch Conrad and Pastor Brady Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in the Science Hill Friends Meeting Cemetery, 2421 Lassiter Mill Rd., Asheboro.Mr. Hammond was a native of Randolph County and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of New Jerusalem United Church of Christ and was the retired owner/operator of Hammond's Exxon. Harvey was a charter member of the Farmer Lions Club and was preceded in death by his sister, Clara Shaver. He is survived by his wife, Joan Floyd Hammond, daughters, Leesa Hammond Kiser and her husband Ray of Asheboro, NC, Debra Hammond Brower of Asheboro, NC; son, Neal Harris Hammond of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Kevin Kiser, Matthew Kiser, Ashley Brower, Katie Brower, Trey Hammond and Jeneal Hammond; brother, Harold Hammond and Bobby of Randleman, NC; sisters, Helen Spillman of Asheboro, NC; and Irene Allen and her husband David of Asheboro, NC.The family will receive friends on Friday, September 18, 2009 from 6:00-9:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.Memorials may be made to the New Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 4104 Jerusalem Rd., Lexington, NC 27292 or the Farmer Lions Club, c/o Richard Delk, 1829 Hunt Delk Rd., Denton, NC 27239.
