Harris Taylor Sanders, age 89, of Asheboro died Thursday, October 19, 2017.
Mr. Sanders was born January 22, 1928 in Sandersville, GA to John and Maggie Sanders.
He was a graduate of Asheboro High School where he is in the AHS Hall of Fame. Mr. Sanders was a Navy veteran of WWII and co-owner of Southern Motors and Equipment. He was very athletic even in his later years. Mr. Sanders enjoyed playing golf and tennis and was the recipient of numerous medals and one gold medal for tennis doubles in the NC Senior Games. Mr. Sanders was a charter member of Calvary United Methodist Church and a current member at Central United Methodist Church. He was a kind hearted, gentle man who loved to travel to different countries around the world. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his daughter, Joan Marie Sanders, wives, Lucy Lee Gray Sanders and Dorothy Thomas Sanders, brothers, Sterling, John Arthur and Fred Sanders and sister, Elizabeth Sanders.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Hardin Sanders; sons, Steve Sanders of Raleigh, Don Sanders of Charlotte; daughter, Karen Clement and husband Mac Clement of Oak Ridge; step-daughters, Phoebe Patterson and husband Anthony of Summerfield, Penny Kivett and husband Ryan of Glen Allen, VA; grandchildren, Mandy and Maddy Clement, Caroline and Evan Patterson, Riley and Sarah Kivett; sister-in-law, Margaret Sanders of Asheboro; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 12:45-1:45pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy R. Kidd Sr. officiating. Burial with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
