Harold Gill Brown was born on March 20, 1939, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, to H. Gill Brown and (Martha) Mildred Atkinson Brown. He joined brother Wilfred, and later sister Roberta came along to add to the fun. The family moved to Mount Lebanon and then settled on Johnston Drive in McMurray, PA. Although father Gill Brown became a cost accountant for Alcoa, the family raised fruits, vegetables, and dairy goats.
Harold studied business administration at Penn State University's main campus. His parents' friend, Elva Wicks, arranged a meeting to introduce Harold to her neighbor's daughter, Martha Davison. They were married January 30, 1960, and their first daughter, Julie, was born at Centre County Hospital.
After Harold's graduation, he moved his new family to Baltimore, MD, where he began his career with the Social Security Administration. At home, daughters Julie, Jennifer, and Doris kept him busy.
In 1967 Harold became a member of the Baha'i faith. His service included librarian, treasurer, property manager, and many interfaith and race unity committees. Eventually, Harold and Martha were able to take Doris's son PJ Ward-Brown to a conference at the Baha'i Landegg University in Switzerland, followed by a pilgrimage to the Baha'i World Center in Haifa, Israel, with a side trip to Egypt.
In 2008, a retired Harold and Martha followed son-in-law Russell Diggs and daughters Julie and Jennifer to Franklinville, NC. Later grandson PJ Ward-Brown moved to NC, married Katie, and added great-grandson Eli to the family. Granddaughter Elizabeth and her parents, Doris and Jim Garver, visited from Tennessee.
As a retiree, Harold joined Randolph Radio Amateur Club as KJ4WWE.
