Hal Tolbert McDowell, age 87, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, February 5, 2015 with his family by his side.
Mr. McDowell was born June 30, 1927 in Randolph County to Tolbert and Nannie McDowell. He was retired from Bossong Hosiery after 50+ years of service and was a member of Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church. Mr. McDowell was a sweet and humble person who was loved by all who knew him. He always greeted everyone with his big smile. Hal was a hard-working man who loved working in his yard and took great pride in his flowers, trees and garden. He was a wonderful granddaddy and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Hal loved his granddogs, Paisley and Lexie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard, Thomas, Jay, Glenn and Ernest McDowell and sister, Blanche Kivette.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Cox McDowell; daughters, Denise Nance and husband Mike of Asheboro, Sheila Robbins and husband Kenny of Asheboro; grandchildren, Chad Robbins, Brian Robbins, Heather Grant; great grandchildren, Braden and Bailee Robbins.
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 2:30 - 4:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel Dr. Brent Tysinger officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
