H. Ed Lewis, age 78, of 6696 Farmer-Denton Rd., Denton died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Carolina House in Pinehurst.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 2:00 pm at North Bend Cemetery, Bescher Chapel Road, Denton with Rev. Lee Green officiating and with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Lewis was born in Asheboro, NC on October 14, 1933 to William Howard and Margaret Ledwell Lewis. He was a retired Merchant Marine after 40 years of service and served with the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Cape Fear Technical Institute as their Chief Mate on the research ship S.S. Advance II. He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Hunt Lewis. Ed was a larger than life character with a rollicking sense of humor and was a kid at heart. He was a terrific loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by his daughter, Tina Lavallee and her husband Walter Lavallee, Jr. of Asheboro; grandson, Joseph Lavallee of Asheboro, and brother-in-law, Clay Hunt of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
