Gurney Leroy Harrelson

Rev. Gurney Leroy Harrelson, age 85, of Asheboro died Friday, March 21, 2014 at Universal Health Care of Ramseur, Ramseur. Rev. Harrelson was born October 6, 1928 in Randolph County, the son of Levi and Ollie Millikan Harrelson. Rev. Harrelson served in World War II as a Seaman Second Class in the US Navy. He was a member of East Side Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Gurney was preceded in death by his wife; Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Neighbors Harrelson, brothers; Billy and Bobby Harrelson, sister;: Edna H. Loflin, Becky H. Raymond, and Charlotte H. Earl; and one granddaughter; Mischa Marley. A loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather he loved his church and his ministry. He was a people person, witty and jovial; he enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and fishing He is survived by his children and their spouse: Judy and Buddy Neal of Concord, NC, Betty and Henny Howell of Gastonia, NC, Dennis And Hope Harrelson of Star, NC, Debra and Brent McNeill of Ramseur, NC, , Andrea and Tommy Reeves of Harrisburg, NC and Audrey Bailey of Randleman, NC, brother: Charles Harrelson of Asheboro, NC, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM at East Side Baptist Church, 1616 E. Dixie Dr., Asheboro with Pastor J. T. Byerly and Pastor Troy Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro. The family will receive friends at the Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave, Asheboro, Sunday, March 23rd from 6 to 8PM.
