Grace Shaw Hurley, age 101, of Asheboro died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jean Nall officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hurley was born in the Pisgah Community of Randolph County on October 18, 1911 to James Albert and Effie Jane Harvell Shaw. She was a member of the former Grace Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her husband Franklin Eli Hurley, brothers Ralph, Lloyd, and Colon Shaw, and sisters Virginia Humble and Irene Hammer. Grace had a love of flowers and gardening and enjoyed sharing them with friends and neighbors. She was a member of the Randolph Rose Society for approximately 35 years and won many awards for her roses.
She is survived by her daughter, Ruby Jean Hurley Whitley and her husband Billy of Greensboro; grandsons, Bill Whitley and his wife Amy of Chapel Hill and Christopher Whitley and his wife Jennifer of Virginia Beach, VA; great granddaughters, Christine Grace Whitley of Wilmington and Allison Jean Whitley of Chapel Hill; sisters, Dot Nance and her husband James of Asheboro and Lucille Richardson of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
