Mr. Glen Whitt Poole, age 94, of Troy died Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at his home.
Mr. Poole was born August 10, 1922 in Montgomery County, NC, the son of the late Dewitt and Edie (Batten) Poole.
Mr. Poole served in the Army Air Corp. He was best known as the first letter carrier in the Town of Troy, walking an average of 16 miles a day. He was the owner/operator of Poole's Body Shop and Texaco Service Station for many years. He was a member of the Montgomery County Rescue Squad for over 50 years, as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge #718 for over 50 years. He enjoyed wood carving as a hobby. He loved his church and read his Bible every day.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Evelyn (Story) Poole, and one daughter, Galen (Ronnie) Hunsucker of Troy, NC; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Reece Poole, Cleat Poole, and Cecil Poole; one sister, Mary Poole Beaman.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 28, 2017, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy, NC. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 401 E. Main St., Troy, with the Rev. Ed Lowder and Pastor Tony Sedberry, officiating. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery, Troy, NC.
