Gladys Branson Thornburg, age 88, of 5527 Lassiter Mill Rd., Asheboro died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston- Salem.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. Harold Hammond and Rev. Joe Conley officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Thornburg was born in Randolph County on January 23, 1920 to the late Roscoe Wade Branson and Cornie Dawson Branson Hinshaw. She was a retired food service worker with Farmer School and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Val Thornburg, daughter, Judith T. Fisher, son, Wade Thornburg, and sister, Barbara Sines. Gladys was a nature lover and enjoyed gardening and flowers.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Susan McLaughlin and Steven Thornburg both of Asheboro, NC; great grandchildren, Cynthia Poole and Taylor McLaughlin; sisters, Mary Ellen Branson Pike and her husband Carter of Asheboro, NC; Rebecca H. Hurley and her husband Rex of Asheboro, NC; brother, Larry Hinshaw and his wife Doris of Asheboro, NC and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 9, 2008 from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro.
