Gladys Marie Brown Herlocker, of Asheboro passed away January 13, 2013 at Woodland Hill Care and Rehabilitation Center, where the staff were more than just care takers to her, but became part of the family.
Mrs. Herlocker was born November 25, 1926 to the late Eugene Elliot and Lena Allred Brown. She was a native of Randolph County growing up in Sophia with a family of 7 brothers and sisters, graduated from Asheboro High School in 1943. She remained in Randolph County, in the Farmer community where she married and raised her children. She later moved to Alexandria, VA where she worked for the United States Senate until she retired and returned to Asheboro.
Her brothers and sisters have remained close throughout the years, surviving are Colin Brown, David Brown and Violet Brown Cox all of Sophia and Ruth Brown Ingold of Asheboro, along with the late Luther Brown, Bertha Brown and Edna Hodgin.
She was a loving mother to the late Ray Boyce Herlocker, Jr. and his surviving wife Anne Herlocker and surviving son Donald Austin Herlocker all of Myrtle Beach, SC.
She was a friend and inspiration to her grandchildren, Tara Herlocker Hoover, Jennifer Herlocker James, William Austin Herlocker, Derek Ray Herlocker, Brett Alan Herlocker, and Parris Austin Herlocker along with 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Gladys was known for her love of others and her love and faith for the Lord.; she was a member of Asheboro Friends Church. She always set good examples for her children, and grandchildren, she will be missed and loved forever.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 12:30 -1:45pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Pat and Ken Thames officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
