Gladys Caviness Dunlap, age 95, was called home to be with God, April 27, 2012 at North Pointe Assisted Living Community, Randleman.
Gladys was born on April 15, 1917 to John Wesley Caviness and Florence Honeycutt Caviness. She graduated from Star High School and worked at Sunset Theater and Randolph County Tax Department for many years. Gladys formerly resided on Sunset Avenue until her move to North Pointe in 2010.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Dunlap, parents, John and Florence Caviness and two sisters; Mabel Garner Kern of Ether and Grace Caviness Thornburg of Randleman. While Gladys had no biological children of her own, she was blessed with three nephews, seven great nieces and nephews, fifteen great great nieces and nephews, eleven great great great nieces and nephews. Gladys was dearly loved by family, in-laws and wonderful friends she had made over the years. She made people feel loved and special with her kind, generous and loving nature. Gladys was being cared for by her family, Richard Kern and his wife, Janet of Asheboro, Max Kern and his wife, Shirley of Summerfield, Karen Kern Pedersen and her husband, Dan of Ether, Len Kern of Star and Cheryl Kern Lanier of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 30, 2012 from 12:30 to 1:30 PM prior to the 1:30 PM funeral service at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, NC 27203 with Rev. Kay Boone officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.

The family wants to thank Hospice of Randolph County for the exceptional care which was given to Gladys and the staff at North Pointe that treated Gladys with love and dignity and affectionately called her "Grandma". Gladys was loved and will be missed by those who were privileged to know her.
