Gilbert Lee "Gib" Green, age 67, of Troy passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
Gib was born May 26, 1949 at Albemarle, NC the son of Mont Lee and Virginia Parnell Green Robinson.
He lived the majority of his life in the Troy area. After his service in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, he began a career in law enforcement working at the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, Town of Troy Police Department and NC Dept. of Corrections.
Gib was an avid hunter and fisherman. He participated for many years in the annual Demolition Derby at TroyFest. He was known as the "Green Giant" and placed 3 times as Best in Show. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Hawkins Green and his sister, Brenda Sue Green.
He is survived by one daughter: Shannon and husband Jerry W. McNeill of Biscoe; two grandchildren: Mandy McNeill Georgepul and husband Justin of Troy, Jered McNeill of Biscoe; three great-grandsons: Gavin, Brycen Lee and Brendon Georgepul; first cousins: Linda and Danny Hicks of Asheboro, Jerry and Sheila Treece of Troy, Carey Green of Biscoe, Johnny Green, Elaine Helmig of Myrtle Beach, SC, Ada Gossge of Pinehurst and Annie Carter of Troy.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at his home. A Celebration of Gilbert's Life will be Saturday at 2:00 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home with Tony Sedberry officiating.
Military honors will be provided.
