George Russell Miller, age 86, of Asheboro died Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church, 1928 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro with Rev. Doug Dennis and Rev. Eddie McClure officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
George served in the Seabees and WWII in the Pacific. He was a retired supervisor from Laughlin Hosiery Mill. George started the Best Year's Fellowship at Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church and was active at McDonalds Breakfast friends on North Fayetteville Street for over 25 years. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World for 45 years, and past president of Lodge 921. George was known for presenting flags to churches, schools, and other non-profit organizations. George was predeceased by son Joseph Russell Miller.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years Johanna Underwood Miller, daughter Audrey McDowell of Asheboro, sons Bobby and wife Cindy Miller of Asheboro, Mike and wife Jena Miller of Albemarle, and daughter-in-law Pam Miller of Deep Gap, NC. George had 7 grandchildren, 1 step granddaughter, 5 great-grandchildren, and 3 step great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 27, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro.
