George Stephen "Steve" Henley

George Stephen Henley, age 70, of Asheboro died Tuesday, January 16th, 2018 at the W. G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury NC.

Mr. Henley was born August 9, 1947 the son of Samuel Milton and Frances Louella Ledwell Henley. Steve was a native of Randolph County, a 1965 Graduate of Farmer High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Greensboro College. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War in which he was awarded the Bronze Star medal. Steve earned his surveyor's license in 1997 and subsequently founded Steve Henley Surveying. Surveying took Steve on many adventures, created special memories, and stories to last a lifetime.

He was passionate about cars with a special draw towards convertibles. Steve proudly showcased his passion through the years, owning numerous MGs, Fiats, and Miatas. He enjoyed a good book, spending time at the beach, and pier fishing with family.

In addition to his parents, Steve is preceded in death by his son, Matt Henley; sisters, Judy Surratt, Brenda Davidson and brother-in-law, Jerome Davidson; special canine companions, Snick and Clancy.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janet Hill Henley; daughter, Milty Henley Brown (Ed) of Greensboro; son, Sam Henley of Greensboro; step sons, Donald Carter (Wendy) of Asheboro, Charles Carter of Asheboro, and Brian Carter of Asheboro; step grandchildren, Olivia and Alexis Carter, Hannah and Haley Carter and Charley Carter; sister, Martha Conley of Asheboro and brother, Phil Henley of Asheboro.

The family will receive friends Sunday, January 21, 2018 from 12:00-1:45 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro, NC. The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 21 at 2:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Hopewell Friends Meeting Cemetery, 2244 Hopewell Friends Road, Asheboro, NC.
