George C. Kivett, Sr.

George C. "Jack" Kivett, Sr., 89, of 1043 Shamrock Rd., Asheboro died Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Randolph Hospital.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at 4:00 PM at Brower's Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with Rev. Michael W. Adams Sr. and Rev. David Spaulding officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.Mr. Kivett was born December 31, 1919. He attended Ramseur High School and served in the U.S. Army as a PFC during World War II. He received the Purple Heart and was a member of Anzio Beachhead Veterans, a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and the Woodmen of the World. He worked for the City of Asheboro and retired from Hedgecock Builders Supply. Mr. Kivett was also owner and operator of Kivett's Repair Shop. He was preceded in death by his parents, George P. Kivett and Mary Ellen Stuart Kivett, brothers, Lester, Exton, Ottis, Charlie, Lacy, and John Henry Kivett, and sisters, Iela McDaniels, Etta Williams, and Gladys Kivett.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Christine Kivett of the home; son, George C. "Jackie" Kivett, Jr. and his wife Linda of Asheboro, NC; granddaughter, Tonyia Johnson and her husband Joe of Franklinville, NC; great grandsons, Houston, Kerry, and Grayson Johnson all of Franklinville, NC; sister-in-law, Nova Moffitt of Franklinville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends on Friday, July 3, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at his home.
