George Edison Brown, age 89, of Franklinville died Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Hospice Home at High Point, High Point, NC.
Mr. Brown was born November 15, 1924 the son of Alva Edison and Velva Trogdon Brown.
Mr. Brown was a native of Randolph County and graduated from Randleman High School in 1942. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in WWII as Seaman 1st Class and earned his water purification credentials from UNC in 1948. George was an avid sportsman and active member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He retired from Thomas Built Buses and was one the founders of the Randolph County Honor Guard. George was preceded in death by his son: Ronald E. Brown, and brother & sister in law: Mr. and Mrs. Gene Brown of Randleman.
He is survived by his wife: Gladys Routh Brown, two daughters: Janice Julian and her husband, Edwin of Franklinville, Teresa Richardson and her husband, Gary of Climax, 4 grandchildren: Tara Williams, Chris (Amy) Brown and his mother: Ann Brown, Dana (Tim) Greene and Briana (Chad) Lackey; 8 great grandchildren: Alexis Lackey, Braden Greene, Camden Greene, Selah Greene, Gage Lackey, Georgia Brown Williams, Cash Edison Brown and Halie Hancock; two sisters: Ruth Rumbley of Greensboro and Nancy Johnson of Greenville, SC.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 10, 2014 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Bethany United Methodist Church, 3650 Bethany Church Road, Franklinville, NC with Pastor Pat Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
