George William Austin, age 86, of Thomasville died Saturday, December 6, 2014 at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center, Archdale.
Mr. Austin was born April 6, 1928 the son of Joseph and Ozena Hatfield Austin.
He was a native of Georgetown, TN. and served in the US Navy during WWII. George was retired from Pickett Hosiery in Burlington. He was a member of Randleman Church of God and very active in the church and a former cub scout leader. In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his brothers: John and Joe Austin; sisters: Thelma Couch, Pauline Reed and Emogene Haskins.
He is survived by his daughters: Phyllis Cox and Crystal Brown and her husband Mike both of Sophia; sons: David Austin and his wife Michelle of Thomasville, and Gary Austin and his wife Nancy of High Point; sister: Mary Ruth Wyatt of TN.; brothers: Frank Austin and his wife Myra of Archdale, Albert Austin and his wife Sarah of Lexington, and Elbert Austin and his wife Eva of TN. grandchildren: Terri Thomas, Michael Austin, Corey Brown, Haley Austin, and Chase Austin; 3 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 7 to 9 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman with Rev. Troy Wilhelm and Rev. C. Alan Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.
