Garland Ray Lawson, 71, of North Myrtle Beach, SC joined his Lord and Savior in Heaven on October 21, 2015. He passed away in Greenville, SC, where he had spent the last three months with his family.
Garland was born February 16, 1944, in Coleridge, NC. He was a loving husband and father, an excellent provider for his family, and a selfless supporter of others. He was founder and co-owner of L&M Floor Covering, retiring in 2004, and he was active in the Home Builders Association in Asheboro, NC. He was an active member at Fayetteville Street Baptist Church and later at Anchor Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. Garland, with his strong competitive spirit, was an avid golfer and loyal fan of UNC Tarheels basketball.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Tedder Lawson, of North Myrtle Beach, SC. Other family members include a son, Darren (Sarah) Lawson; a daughter, Deneen Lawson; a grandson, Cameron Lawson, all of Greenville, SC; five sisters, Betty Scott of Seagrove, NC, Margie Ritch, Vadis Shaw, Beverly McCain, and Brenda Trotter, and, one brother, Vance Lawson, all of Asheboro, NC; many nieces and nephews; and, a very special three-year-old little friend, Avery Rauth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maud and Nora Coffer Lawson; two brothers, infant Paul Lawson and Dempsey Lawson; two sisters, Elvie Bullins and Virginia Lanier.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday, October 24 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Fayetteville Street Baptist Church in Asheboro, NC. Memorial services will follow at 2:00 pm, with the Pastor Carl Wood officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Memorial Gardens. A second memorial service will be held at Anchor Baptist Church in Little River, SC on Sunday, October 25 from 4:30-5:30 pm.
The family wishes to thank Homestead Hospice of Greenville, SC for their three-month care of Garland and their gracious assistance to the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made in Garland's memory to Anchor Baptist Church Building Fund, 3300 State Hwy 50, Little River, SC 29566.
