Galenda Gayle Slaughter Sandlin, age 71, of Asheboro died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Mrs. Sandlin was born September 16, 1943 the daughter of John Matthew and Lola Bell Smith Slaughter.
Mrs. Sandlin was a native of Wilmington, NC and received her nursing degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem. Galenda served the healthcare industry in several places before making her home in Randolph County. She was formerly employed with Randolph Hospital and later retired from the Randolph County Health Department after 20 years of service. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Asheboro where she was a member of the Dean Bailey Sunday school class. In addition to her parents, Galenda is preceded in death by her brother, John Matthews "Matt" Slaughter, Jr.
She is survived by her husband: Jesse "Jay" Sandlin; sons: Mark Alan Sandlin and wife Jeanette Quick of Greensboro, Woody Jay Sandlin and wife Mary Elizabeth of Greensboro; sister: Katherine Kay and husband Boyce of Topsail Beach; grandchildren: Kayli Dawn Sandlin, Hunter Grant Sandlin, Andrew Fearis Sandlin, Julia Stahr Sandlin and Sara Beth Sandlin.
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2014 at 2 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, 420 West Walker Ave. in Asheboro with Rev. Brian Gawf and Rev. Connie Weaver officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church Fellowship Hall.
