Fred Martin Kearns, Jr, age 83, of 1022 Oakmont Dr., Asheboro died Friday, November 30, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a much beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. . Mr. Kearns was a native of Randolph County and a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was past member of the official board and a Sunday School Teacher. He was president of Acme-McCrary & Sopona Foundation, past vice-president of Acme-McCrary Corporation. He was a graduate of University of NC at Chapel Hill with Business Administration and a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Mr. Kearns was long active in civic affairs, past member of NC Governor's Council on Occupational Health, past member of the Advisory Board of General Greene Council Boy Scouts of America and former scout master. He was past member of Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce, past member of Asheboro Rotary Club and Paul Harris Fellow. Also past member of Board of Directors with First American Savings Bank, past chairman of Randolph Chapter American Red Cross and Red Cross Blood Program. He was past president of Randolph Historical Society, former member from Randolph County for Global Transport Committee. Mr. Kearns was a member of American Legion and Disabled American Veteran, former member of Triad Council of Government, and former member of Randolph County new courthouse advisory group.He was also past member of Ashebor City Council. He is survived by his wife: Wilda Briles Kearns, daughter and her husband: Karen and Tom Trollinger of Asheboro, NC ; son and his wife: Martin and Beth Kearns of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren: Caroline Trollinger; Lindsey Trollinger; Lauren Trollinger; William Kearns; George Kearns; great grandchildren: Hunter Wilson, and Cameron Norton The funeral will be Monday, December 3, 2007 at 11:00 AM. at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Rev. Michael Holder and Rev. George Robertson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the funeral service. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro.
