d. May 20, 2017

Frances Jocelyn Dozier Guill, age 88, died Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Clapp’s Nursing and Convalescent Home in Asheboro, NC. Born August 5, 1928 in Rocky Mount, NC, Frances was the daughter of Lois Boone and Roland Webster Dozier. On August 6, 1946, she married George Franklin Guill, Jr.

She was an employee and officer of Centura Bank, retiring in 1992 after 30 years of service. In her second profession, Frances was a real estate broker, selling real estate in the Randolph County area for almost 10 years. Frances was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, Pilot International Service Group, including past president of the Nash County Chapter and the Railroad Auxiliary. Though Frances was a faithful Church member, loyal employee, dedicated community volunteer, helper, and friend; she is best remembered for her roles as mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and for her unwavering love for her family.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, George, who passed in 1983; her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Ray Norville of Rocky Mount, NC; and by her daughter-in-law, Mildred Elaine Armstrong Guill of Tampa, Florida, who passed in 1993.

Frances is survived by her son, George Franklin Guill, III, of Tampa, Florida; and by her daughter, Robin Ann Guill Liles and son-in-law, Thomas Allen Liles, Sr., of Asheboro, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Susan Elizabeth Guill Smith, and her husband, Patrick of Concord, NC; Charles Allen Liles, and his wife, Nora of Chesapeake, Virginia; Jessica Lynn Guill Sonnenschein, and her husband, Mark of Tampa, Florida; George Thomas Liles, and his wife, Amy of Concord, NC; and Thomas Allen Liles, Jr. of Oslo, Norway; and by her great-grandchildren: Katherine Elizabeth Smith, George Patrick Smith, Nathan William Liles, Jocelyn Louise Liles, Nicholas Henry Liles, Collison Thomas Liles, and Allen Joseph Liles; and by her nephew, Terry Ray Norville, and his wife, Jackie, of Rocky Mount, NC.

Frances was especially known for her graceful demeanor, sunny spirit, and quick wit. During periods of adversity, her patience, strength, and courage served as a bulwark upon which her family could always depend for support. She gave of herself generously without any thought of recompense. Throughout her life, Frances embodied humility, charm, faith, and love.  To those who knew her, her presence was both enlivening and soothing. Frances always had an accepting and patient ear, a kind and comforting word, a gentle and healing touch, and — an oh-so-sweet smile.
