Fernande Marie-Jeanne Tanguay Goguen, age 90, of Asheboro, NC, died on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro, just four weeks after her husband Edward's passing on November 30. That was the longest time in their 71-year marriage that they had ever been apart. Fern had just celebrated her 90th birthday on December 29, the day before she passed. She was a resident of Carillon Assisted Living in Asheboro. Fern was born on December 29, 1924 in Beloeil, Quebec, Canada, to Arthur and Yvonne Brunette Tanguay. She spent most of her life in Gardner, MA, where she and Edward raised their six children. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and parish, and she enjoyed many years singing in the adult church choir. She was also associated with St. Joseph Catholic Church in Asheboro, NC. Fern worked for the public school system in the City of Gardner for ten years as both a teacher aide and a secretary, and had previously held various part-time positions while living in Gardner. She was most known for being a very talented seamstress, and she enjoyed making clothing and quilts for her beloved family. She began to sew at the age of 12, creating her own patterns, and continued her craft throughout her life. She also found joy in teaching others how to sew. Fern touched so many lives, and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter: Helen Tucker of High Point, NC; son and his wife: Rene and Ann Goguen of Athol, MA; daughter and her husband: Annette and Paul Dymek of Denton, NC; daughter and her husband: Jeannie and Steve Walsh of Chapel Hill, NC; son and his wife: Art and Suisei Goguen of Monument, CO; son and his wife: Don and Diane Goguen of Fountain Hills, AZ; five grandsons: Rene Goguen, Bob Lajoie, Craig Goguen, Keith Lajoie, and Beren Goguen; 12 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by nine of her ten siblings. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward "Ed" Goguen; her only granddaughter, Arwen Goguen of Monument, CO; and her brother, Father Andre Tanguay, OMI, of the Oblate residence in Tewksbury, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Gardner, MA, at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Gravesite prayers will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery in Gardner, MA, where both Fern and Ed's ashes will be buried together in the Goguen family plot. Refreshments will then be served at Kamaloht, 1 North Main Street, East Templeton, MA. Memorials may be made to Camp Hope Summer Camp for children with diabetes, Casper, Wyoming at www.camphopewy.com.
