Faye Elizabeth O'Dell Gillen passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, April 14, 2010 at her residence in Asheboro, North Carolina. She was born in Richmondale, OH, on August 16, 1931, daughter to the late Myron C. and Margaret Fay O'Dell. For over 52 years, Faye was the loving wife to her husband Dr. John C. Gillen, who passed away on November 2, 2004 at their beloved farm in Spring Valley, OH. She began her professional career as a registered nurse, and after raising her five children, began a second career in real estate where she enthusiastically enjoyed putting her business savvy and other many talents to professional use. Although she suffered ill health in her later years, she made friends easily and touched many lives with her special gifts. Faye is survived by her five children and their spouses: son Stephen Gillen and his wife Lori of Cincinnati, OH; daughter Cathy Thacker and her husband Charles of Cary, NC; daughter Ann Hill and her husband Richard of Peoria, IL; son John E. Gillen and his wife Elaine of Ashton, MD; and daughter Dr. Beth Hodges and her husband Cisco of Asheboro, NC, with whom she lived; and her two sisters Pat O'Dell and Norma Cribbs. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, Sarah Holland, David Gillen, Julie Thacker, David Thacker, Sarah Thacker, Preston James Hill, Kristen Hill, Katie Hill, Richard Gillen, Daniel Gillen, Alexander Hodges, Nicholas Hodges and Elena Hodges and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her infant son, Charles Gillen, her sister, Phyllis Dugan, and grandson, Richard Hill, Jr. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Patricia Shevlin and the entire staff at Community Home Care and Hospice for their dedicated care and service. Also special thanks are given to Davina Phillips, her devoted, long-time care giver. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro, NC. Donations in lieu of flowers are being accepted for Community Home Care and Hospice, 147 MacArthur Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.
