Farrell Bulla Sumner, age 79, of 4421 NC Hwy 22 North, Franklinville died Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with masonic graveside rites.
Mr. Sumner was born in Trinity, NC on May 19, 1933 to Paul Sumner and Louie Evon Briles. He was retired as a truck driver with East Coast Leasing and was a member of Grays Chapel United Methodist Church. Farrell was a member of the Hanks Lodge #128 and Balfour Lodge #188. He was a Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rite. In addition to his parents, Farrell was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Brown Sumner and son Harvey Clarence Cottrell.
He is survived by his wife, Janie Canoy Sumner of the home, daughters, Charlotte Sumner Welborn of Franklinville, NC, Shawn Sumner Vuncannon and her husband Gregory Coe of Asheboro, NC, Linda Cottrell Burns and her husband Harvey of Bennett, NC; son, Stanley Edgar Cottrell of Randleman, NC; daughter-in-law, Shirley Russell Cottrell of Franklinville, NC; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Sumner of Asheboro, NC; and sister, Delinda Beane of Virginia Beach, VA.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 28, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church, 5056 N.C. Hwy 22 North, Franklinville, NC and other times at the home of his brother Kenneth Sumner, 1000 N. Park Dr., Asheboro, NC.
