Evelyn Johnson Yow, age 78, of 625 Forest Valley Dr., Asheboro died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at High Point Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Yow was born January 11, 1934 in Davidson County to E. J. and Larmie Johnson.
Evelyn was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Asheboro. She was a devoted wife, mother, and proud grandmother. She was an avid reader and gardener, and loved to cook for her family and large circle of friends. Known affectionately to her grandchildren as "Mama", she could often be found cheering them on at their various sports activities. A beloved teacher's assistant for 24 years at Lindley Park Elementary School reading, singing and telling stories to the children she loved so much. Evelyn is remembered fondly in her community. She was the light of her husband Bobby's life. With whom she recently celebrated 60 years of happy marriage. The epitome of a classy southern lady, Evelyn and her lovely, enduring smile will be greatly missed by the many whose lives she touched. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Robert L. Johnson.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Yow; sons, Chris L. Yow and his wife Jennifer of Asheboro, Jeffrey Reese Yow of Greensboro; grandchildren, Christopher Yow and his wife Jolan of Greensboro, Benjamin Yow and his wife Alice of Concord, Rebecca Yow of Asheboro, Reese Yow of Wilmington, Clark Yow of Greensboro; great grandchild, Walker Yow of Concord; brother: E. J. Johnson, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Asheboro.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Central United Methodist Church, 300 South Main Street, Asheboro with Rev. Terry Matthews and Rev. Mark Key officiating. A reception immediately following the service will be held in the Family Life Center at the church.
