Mary Evelyn Russell Moffitt (Eb) of Asheboro died peacefully Wednesday, April 23, 2014.
The family will be receiving friends Friday evening at Pugh Funeral Home from 6 to 8 P.M. and a Memorial Service and Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakhurst Baptist Church, 2225 S. Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC 27205. There will be a private graveside service at Randolph Memorial Park.
Mrs. Moffitt was a native of Moore County. She retired from Pinehurst Textiles where she worked for many years.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved cooking for her family and friends and
was known for her butter pecan pound cakes, working in her flowers and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lester C. Moffitt, Sr., her parents, David Nineva and Rosetta Russell, brothers, John Russell, Wayne Russell, Alton Russell, David Russell, Robert Russell, and sisters Edna Scott and Margaret Grey.
She was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church and for a number of years was active in WMU where she served as President, taught Sunday School and was Secretary/Treasurer for The Friendly Class. She also planned and started at Oakhurst the Girl's Auxiliary (Girls in Action (GA) which was followed by commencement and graduation. She served as a greeter which she truly enjoyed for a number of years. She also volunteered at Randolph Memorial Hospital and always enjoyed helping others.
Surviving are her three children and respective spouses. L. C. Moffitt, Jr. and Anne Boaze Moffitt of Asheboro, Judy Moffitt Green of Charlotte, Bobby Ray Moffitt and Judy Robbins Moffitt of Asheboro, plus grandchildren; Randy Lester Moffitt and Robin Allred Moffitt of Oak Island, NC, Beth Anne Moffitt Wentzel and Terry K. Wentzel of Charlotte, Robbie Ray Moffitt and Valerie Dawn Gordon Moffitt of Asheboro and Julie Laine Moffitt Snowden and Sam Snowden of Southern Pines, great grandchildren; Grayson, Mary-Peyton and Ella Grace Moffitt of Oak Island, NC; Ryan Aaron, Kirby and Spencer Moffitt of Asheboro, NC; Amy Wentzel Cobb of Belmont, NC; and, Covey Grace Snowden of Southern Pines, NC, great great grandchildren; Mikala and Easton Aaron and Maddox Cobb. She is survived by two sister-in-laws, Lina Moffitt Ferree of Asheboro and Helen Russell of Philadelphia, PA; and brother-in-law Ralph Grey of Greensboro, plus many nieces and nephews who knew her as "Aunt Eb".
The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Randolph Hospice House for the love and care given to Evelyn during her stay there.
