Thomas Eugene "Gene" Singleton, age 72, of 2336 Okeeweemee-Star Road, Troy died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
Mr. Singleton was born December 16, 1938 in Montgomery County, NC, the son of the late Thomas F and the late Jennie Taylor Singleton.
Gene was very active in his Christian life. He was a member of Forks of Little River Baptist Church where he served in various capacities. He was a member of the Montgomery Baptist Association Disaster Relief Group. He was a self-employed carpenter and using his skills and knowledge of construction and his love for people, he traveled on mission trips to different parts of the United States and twice to Haiti and once to Brazil helping build churches and schools. Gene was an avid fisherman and hunter; he loved the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Louise Clark Singleton.
He is survived by two sons: David Singleton and wife, Cindy of Greensboro, Tommy Singleton of Troy; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 pm at Forks of Little River Baptist Church, 2356 Okeeweemee-Star Road, Troy with Rev. Bill Roy and Rev. Wayne VunCannon officiating. Burial will be in Forks of Little River Baptist Church Cemetery.
