Ethel Bischer Hammond, 89, of Cross Roads Retirement Community, formerly of High Pine Church Road, Asheboro, North Carolina passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2015 with the Rev. Garry R. Reeder officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Hammond was born February 12, 1926 to Talton and Annie Johnson Bischer of Randleman, North Carolina. She was one of four children and lived in the New Salem community. After WWII ended, she met Paul Hammond of Asheboro and they were married on July 11, 1947.
From the mid 60s to the mid 70s, Mrs. Hammond and her husband owned and operated the local Putt-Putt golf course and were the original owners and operators of Southside and Westside Laundromats until the late 80s.
Preceding her in death were parents, husband, C. Paul Hammond, sister, Anna Lee Kelley and brothers, Franklin (infant) and John Bischer.
Surviving are daughter, Debby Hammond of Asheboro, son, Ronnie Hammond and wife Phyllis of Asheboro, one granddaughter, Tina H. Petersen and husband Chad of Kernersville, and grand-dog Allie.
The family expresses a special thank you to the staff of Cross Roads Retirement Community Alzheimer's Unit and to Hospice of Randolph County for the care and support during our mother's stay.
