Ernest Lee "Ernie" Varner, Sr., age 84, of Greensboro died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Clapp's Nursing Center, Inc., Pleasant Garden.
Mr. Varner was born March 21, 1931 the son of Louis Reid and Rose Walden Varner.
Ernest was a native of Guilford County and served in the US Army during the Korean War. Ernest retired from Henridon Furniture in High Point. In addition to his parents Ernie is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Fuller Varner, son, James Ray Varner, step sons, Bobby Walls, Sr. and Danny Lee Varner; brothers, Worth and Donald Varner, sister, Laura Harris.
He is survived by his daughter: Kathy Nance and her husband David of Asheboro; ; son: Ernest Lee Varner, Jr. and his wife Rhonda of Randleman; grandchildren: Christopher Varner and his wife Sabrina of Archdale, Ashley Deaton and her husband Josh of Seagrove, Thomas Truitt of Jacksonville, FL, Elizabeth Varner of Greensboro, Danny Varner and his wife Jennifer of Randleman, Tammy Lohr and her husband Frankie of Archdale, Bobby Walls, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Archdale; 10 great grandchildren; brothers: Rayford Varner of Reidsville, and Ronald Varner of Greensboro.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 12:30 – 1:45 pm prior to the service at the church. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Freedom Life Church, 116 Sunrise Ave., Asheboro with Rev. Benjamin T. Chavis officiating. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park, Greensboro with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
