Emmy Spicer

d. June 3, 2011

Emmary "Emmy" Olivia Spicer, born March 22, 2004, was welcomed to Heaven June 3, 2011, after enduring three years of pediatric neuroblastoma. Her final hours were spent at home, surrounded by her family and friends. Emmy's life was short, just seven years, three of which she battled cancer with every ounce of tremendous spunk she had. Emmy's indomitable spirit and resilient nature serves as an inspiration to her family and countless others. Through God's grace, Emmy has expanded our faith and courageously completed God's plan for her. There is no doubt that the image of Emmy, on her best days, dancing in her driveway, sitting astride a pony, or driving her pink ATV will live on. Even in the toughest times, her courageous spirit rallied, making time for tea parties, sleepovers and her beloved girlfriends, all things she loved and cherished. Canine companions, Buttercup, Oreo and Lulu, the rescue bulldog, along with Chloe, her beloved guinea pig, have brought comfort and welcome distraction. It is with deep gratitude and a spirit of thanksgiving that parents, Dare Eastlack Spicer and Rodney Brant Spicer surrender her to God's grace. Hayden Lloyd Spicer, Emmy's brother, supported Emmy and created special memories which the family will cherish. Emmy is further survived by her grandparents, Rita and Lloyd Eastlack, Joyce and Wesley Garner, and Brant Spicer. Also surviving are great grandfather, Charles Wood, and great grandmother, Louise Garner as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Those that have predeceased Emmy are her grandmother, Virginia Lou Wilson, great grandparents Emma and Hampton Wilson and Muriel and Lloyd Eastlack, great grandmother Mary Wood, and her "Grammy", Linda Stultz King. The family is especially grateful to friends and caregivers in our Randolph County community as well as other communities and church families who extended abundant love and support. Deep appreciation is extended to those organizations which have provided invaluable services of treatment and care for Emmy which include: Brenner's Children's Hospital, White Oak Family Practice, Premier Pediatrics, Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital, Camp Firefly and Kids Path, and Southmont Elementary School. A Celebration of Life service for Emmy will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Holder and Rev. Susan Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 6-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. Donations made to BandofParents.org will be deeply appreciated.
