Emma Jean Brown Jones, age 86, of Hwy 42, Asheboro died at home on Tuesday January, 25, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Odell Jones.
She was a native of Asheboro, the daughter of the late Zell and Elizabeth Poole Brown, and graduated from Asheboro High School. She grew up as a member of Brower's Chapel Church and later became a member of First Methodist Church of Asheboro.
Jean and Odell were owners and operators of Jones Skating Rink, opening in 1957, and staying in the business for nearly 50 years.
She was preceded in death by siblings Helen B. C. Hawthorne, and Cecil L. Brown.
She is survived by sons Larry O. Jones and wife Kay of Salisbury, Thomas S. Jones of Asheboro, daughters Cynthia J. Cox and husband Jimmie of Asheboro, and Lorraine Newsome and husband Randy of Asheboro; grandchildren Kim Farmer of Asheboro, David Cox of Greensboro, Carla Sprinkle and husband Paul of Salisbury; Brian Jones and wife Lani of Salisbury, Eric Cox of Charlotte; Darren Newsome and wife Anna of Asheboro; Stephen Newsome of Henderson and Laura Newsome of Asheboro. She was also blessed with great grand children Josh Hagan of Asheboro, Julia and Lindsey Farmer of Asheboro, Katelyn and Gracie Sprinkle of Salisbury, Landon Clevinger of Salisbury, Savannah Underwood of Charlotte, Torin Brigman of Asheboro, Berkli Jones of Salisbury, and Elijah Newsome of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday January 27, 2011 at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave, Asheboro, NC; and other times at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January, 28, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Rev. Michael Holder and Dr. Donald Haynes officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
